The 2006 Guyanese legislative election took place in Guyana on 28 August 2006.

Campaign

The People's Progressive Party of incumbent President Bharrat Jagdeo was ahead in the opinion polls and was expected to keep its majority in the National Assembly of Guyana.[1]. Continued racial tension raged the campaign, as the PPP supports Indo-Guyanese affairs and the PNC/R supports Afro-Guyanese affairs. Topics in the election, was slow economic growth, racial tensions, and relations with Caribbean nations.

Election day was declared a national holiday and troops patrolled the streets in order to prevent violence as had happened in previous elections.[1]
